These two have been on the go for a couple of weeks or so, but hopefully theyre eligible. I already started a thread for each, unsure if you guys would rather blend/move the threads into here to keep it tidy or not, I really dont mind but will keep future progress in here. Either way, here they are as of now and are being done simultaneously so figured one thread for both would be the way to go.

Airfix OS -

KH GR1 -

The aim for them respectively looks a little like this:

Well, kind of. You get the idea anyway.

One thing that Im not 100% sure about is the little adapter between the pylon and the AIM-9 rail on the Jag, it would look wrong without it, but I cant find any decent images of the thing to work from - any help in that regard would be great.
Now... one more day of beer abuse and then I will get back to them. :)
Good luck to all, lets get that shelf cleared!

Me too!

Ive just found the LAU7 rail adapter and rail in my Monogram Harrier box, looks good enough to me, so thats that. Just need to straighten the Eduard resin missiles and thats everything sorted. I love it when a plan comes together... :)

Right. Wheres me airbrush?

P1110407%20Large.jpg

Almost all diddy bits on both, ready for a primer tie-in, a wee rub and then some actual top coat stuff... quite incredible. :)
Stoopid KH undercarriage masked/maskol'd along with Eduard canopy mask - will be interesting to see how I did with the DIY Airfix glass masking as a comparison.

Hopefully making a good move with these this weekend

Not at all convinced by the recommended colours, especially the Light Stone. Its not as light as the photo shows, nor is the Dark Earth so dark, but still.... Maybe a very thin coat of the two colours mixed over the whol aircraft will pull them in as well as reducing the contrast....? Im gonna have a cuppa and a think I reckon.

Cheers, took me all afternoon thanks in part to Model Alliances camo destructions being drawn by Mr Escher....

However, that Light Stone isnt right. Ive searched for images to make it match, but alas, no. Heres a couple of shots with what I believe show more true colours -

Yes, a bit of wing has "fallen off" the first one, hazards of Thumrait I believe :)

Its a bit annoying to find colours so often incorrect in call outs. Yes, its well known thats how it is, but... if we can do the research, shouldnt the buggers who we pay for the kits and info do it too? I mean... I hate masking wrap-arounds and my time on this planet is limited!

More Blu-Tack purchased along with some "thinking juice".

Suggestions to correct the colour are very much welcome, the more pain free the better!!! But the Blu-Tack is waiting....

Light Stone and Dark Earth may well be the correct colours, but how well have the paint manufacturers matched those colours?  If you were to paint samples of Dark Earth for example from every paint manufacturer out there who claim to match it, I doubt you would find two paints to match.  The Dark Earth doesn't look too far off,  but the Light Earth should have some more yellow in it to match the impression from the photos.  Can you mix some Mid Stone or perhaps a few drops of Dark Earth in the Light Earth?

Aye, just the same old problem of paint recommendations... meh, annoys me sometimes.

I was thinking the same re drops of Dark Earth into the Light Stone. Looking at the paint stash (99% Humbrol enamels) What looks closest is Hu148, Radome Tan, but I feel some samples need to be painted on some scrap and see whats what, its the only way I guess.
Might move over to the GR1 Jag for a bit as at least we know that Hu163, 164 and 166 are pretty much perfect. :)

Bit happier this morning. I decided to be brave/stupid and I think its paid off for a change. :)

A quick look at the available paints and I went with a rather diluted Humbrol  225 Mid Stone, freehand over the Light Stone. Sure, its a bit scruffy but thats good in this case I think.

Still want to try a sort of white filter over it all as a coat of clear is bound to darken things off a bit.

The camera still doesnt get the colour quite as it is, see the first photo for a better comparison. :)

Twas a relief.

Just tried a gentle micro-meshing on the top side and its doing a nice job of cutting far enough through the paint to let a little Light Stone come through, just a bit, and its lightened it all off and blended/smoothed just enough I think. Its still got a tacky bottom though, so I will leave it a bit. Fingers crossed!

Aha! A quick look in the camera settings showed the "Light" option set to Normal, flicking it to Natural helps a bit re proper colours...

Here we are now after that mesh rub -

Maybe you can just pick out the patchiness/wear kind of look to the paint? No? Aaah, well its there and Im really rather happy/bloody surprised how its turned out. :)

Now, the GR1 needs to catch up a bit me thinks!

Cheers for the reassurance. I must stop just looking at it and get on with them both!
It just looks so right in the flesh and to think this Jag was destined to be a paint and decal test mule due to the warpings, breakages etc it suffered!

Nice work there and a great save on the paintwork. It's good fun watching you save this one from the shelf-of-doom/Bin/paint-mule and producing such a cool and uncommon scheme on the Jag; there's precious few of them getting modelled and it's even better to see an Omani machine.

Cheers, Col.

Theres something quite nice about not really caring much for this one but it turning out sort of ok so far. Its the Kitty Hawk GR1, along with the other 3 (and their varying schemes) that are waiting that scare me... :)

The OS and GR1 are merely warm ups!
Strangely though, Im starting to warm to the all grey scheme that they retired with, bit boring I kinow, but rather smart too.

Aye. I used to spend a fair bit of time as a kid at Donna Nook watching the Jags, A-10s, F15s, Tornados etc doing bombing and strafing runs. A-10, yea, its a given, but the Jags with a pair of (admittedly less pokey) 30mm guns really appealed to me. That and theyre just a classic shape, kind of a no frills hot-hatch sort of plane and I like that.

<---------- That photo there kind of explains. :)
