3 weeks left so perhaps time to do another helicopter given that I'm stalled with the Dominie, Phantom and Spitfire.

I dug out a Huey..already done one. Same with the Sikorsky SH-34J.

I Looked at the AModel Mil Mi-6 and laughed..actually I gave a groan followed by a shudder as I hastily put it back on the shelf.

I've never build either of these 2 before and can't make up my mind.

Don't want to Hound you into making a choice but unless the Mil-4 is a dog of a kit I don't think you'd be barking up the wrong tree to give it a go.

Mi-4

In this paint scheme. Should be nice and easy.

That'll be a fun masking session!

Woof-woof as they say in Blackadder II.

The Mil gets it from me too. Can't beat boilerplate and big rivets...

Haven't seen any in that scheme. I've seen 11 and guess what /

They were all green and blue.

Pity it isn't an Amodel kit. I could have poured glue and paint into the box, given it a shake and got this:

Assuming of course I don't just ignore you and do a Norwegian NH90.

Ha! lost your bottle, broken by the deviants at AModel. Man up like a true Jockwegian champion, waste 6 to 8 weeks of your life battering it into shape before finally breaking doon. adding it to the shelf of doom & admitting you're an idiot for actually trying to build AModels.  Should you decide to ignore my sage advice I'd like to see the NH90.

cheers.

Don't even think of asking me to cut masks for the lettering on that one.

Hound.

I will be honest; I have built this one. It goes together well. The transparencies can be ‘questionable’, but you have a later boxing and sometimes that iteration of KP would refurbish the master moulds.

E.g.: The Aero/MB - 200 for a very short (and hard to find) KP release, received a beautiful new set of nose transparencies (and masks and other goodies).

The recent Smer re pop doesn’t have this unique KP set but the moulds are good. I know. A friend bought one for himself for Christmas 🎅 🤫 🤥.

I know that you’re not fond of photo etch put ‘PART’, also known as a superb Polish shop ‘Jadar Hobby’ do a very nice and very low cost photo etch set for this kit. It can be found on an evil auction site sometimes. All of their photo etch is nice IMHO and puts a lot of Airwaves “Has anyone checked if any of this actually fits the kit chaps” stuff to shame.

A nice low price transfer set is also available, with e.g. a Soviet ambulance and Finnish version; but good old green and blue is fine.

This kit, like many early KP, more or less builds itself, *if* you have a decent moulding.

Did you mention that you were considering another kit too? Sorry, I became distracted by an old friend.

😉

Hi Richard,

One of the guys in our club built one of those Hounds, years and years ago and very nice it was too. Should be a walk in the park for a man of your considerable talents. My vote still goes to the NH90.

I was going to say the NH90, but (almost) everyone else spricht, ‚Hund’, on account of the NH90 being...einen Hund (shrugs).

I‘ll watch along, whichever it is (bonne chance 🤣👍🏼).

By the way, yer not very prolific, are yer? 😱🤣

Some of the people have spoken and as time is of the essence, I will press on with the Mi-4 but don't be surprised if an NH90 suddenly appears.

Mi-4's are like the piston Whirlwinds and S-58s with very prominent cooling grills for the engine.

Kopro give you some half hearted impressions in the plastic which will look naff so a start has been made to remedy this.

A wee while later and it looks like @Miggers has been out with his 12 bore

One and three quarter holes later and I'm already regretting this.

Time for a cup of tea I think.

Looks better already

e0c2097c-5a06-4a25-a942-b161a29025a1.jpg

I will now need to very carefully thin down the inner face before adding a suitable mesh.

Once that's done I'll see how much is visible in there and hopefully I won't need to do a really detailed engine.

Thinned down to about half what was there and mesh added.

Still a tad deep but I daren't risk going any further.

Looks terrible in the photo so may have to do more thinning after all.

Perhaps form a piece of pie plate over the nose, cut out the holes and then put in the mesh? Or is that getting too ambitious?

Excellent idea which I only found after another thinning session but I may still try it.

This kit was supposed to be a straight out of the box build. I have been bashing plastic for about 60 years and I don't think I have ever done that.

As this follows my usual trend I decided that the bog standard troop transport was boring so I have started modifying the fuselage for my chosen version:

The Mil Mi-4 has often been compared with the Whirlwind.

As you can see here,it's not too different

I've heard it described as "shaped like an S-55 (Whirlwind for you lot), sized like an S-58". Can you do a comparison with Aquarius?

There must be a HUGE amount of weight in the nose! Ship’s engine?
