Mad Steve 25,134
Good Morning Everyone Most of us will remember the old Airfix Wants '19, '20, '21 etc threads, and we've seen the question asked in model magazines from the 80's to the '20's.... (Fine Scale Modeller were actually very accurate with their lists) It's now 2023. Over the last 25 years, modelling and models available have just just quadrupulated* to a point where most of what we have wanted in the past is out there now. So, what do you still want in kit form? Let's keep it lighthearted & semiserious, but to the point. (because as you know, ALL the major modelling companies look to ASM for ideas, so you never know... ) My Wants... My wants haven't changed in 20 years... I still want some of the older, classic bikes (in talking 30s onwards) in IM 12th scale (watch out for Aoshima's new series launching December) Bikes that I've ridden available, still on only 2, which means I'd like a Kawasai Z200, Honda CX 500, Honda XR 500, Suzuki GSX 1100, Triumph Tiger 900 AFV's.... More stuff in 48th from Tamiya. (German is boring now), some WW2 Japanese tanks would be nice, and Italian etc Hairyplanes... To get me, to stop dead in my tracks, gobsmacked and throw money at the vendor... would have to be a 1/32 or 1/24th Fairey Seafox... Cars... I've been saying it for years and I don't know how else to say it, more flippen British cars in IM 24th scale. Not your e types and your McLaren's and all that... Allegro's. Avengers, Hillmans, boring old Dad cars...all those fantastic 50's & 60s cars! Right then, over to you... * Real word, honest The list so far (Not including requests for re-issues) Military Aircraft 1/32 or 1/24 Fairey Seafox 1/48 Cavalier Mustang 1/72 Scimitar 1/72 Anson C19 1/72 Short Sperrin 1/72 Canadair Argus 1/72 Javelin FAW.9 1/72 Fairey Battle 1/72 Wildcat 1/72 Phenom 100 1/72 Falcon 900 1/72 Vickers Warwick 1/72 Consolidated C-109 tanker 1/72 Boeing XB-38 1/72 B-17G Turboprop conversion 1/72 Decals for B-24J “Secrut Weapin” 1/72 Halifax 1/72 Stirling 1/72 Hampden 1/72 Sunderland 1/72 Avro Lincoln 1/72 Avro Manchester 1/72 Vulcan B1/B1A 1/72 Victor B1/K1, 1/72 B-47E 1/72 Consolidated B-32 Dominator 1/72 Blenheim V 1/72 Martin Baltimore 1/72 Martin Maryland 1/48 Hampden 1/48 F-86H Sabre 1/48 North American B-45 Tornado 1/72 Boulton Paul Overstrand 1/72 Vickers VC10 (in BOAC gold speedbird scheme) 1/72 DH Hornet/Sea Hornet Helicopter: 1/72 or 1/48 Westland Wasp Westland Whirlwind 1/72 AW139 1/72 Agusta Westland Wildcat (I assume you mean that one @Huntsman’s Close.) 1/72 or 1/48 Westland Scout 1/72 or 1/48 Bristol Belverdere 1/48 Puma, Alouette II & III, Augusta A109 1/32 Wasp & Scout Civilian Aircraft 1/72 injection moulded L-188 Electra (long fuselage version). DC3 4,799
Maybe, but light hearted and semi-serious compliant. On a more serious & non compliant note I would echo your call for more 48th armour from Tamiya, (or anybody else for that matter) my preference being for post war stuff, Merkavas, Centurions, M-48's, M60's, US half tracks (I know, not strictly post war but plenty of post war users) Chieftain etc, you get the picture. Cars wise I'd like to see post 2000 Touring cars and GT/Enduro cars by the likes of Tamiya & Hasegawa. Planes are harder to come up with as so many are already done in all scales so I'll get back to you on that one if I come up with anything. Mad Steve 25,134
Yeah, but they aren't 1/48th. They do look good, but I'd prefer them all the same scale.
RWG686 40,787
A decent and affordable 1/72 Scimitar F1 will come as no surprise from me and a later Anson such as the C19
Long 2,175
A Short Sperrin in 1/72nd so we can have all four V bombers.

Jessie_C 14,079
I'm still patiently waiting for a 1/72 Argus which doesn't involve a second mortgage to convert the Mach2 Britannia.
Tolvcat 5,201
I'm hoping Airfix have opened a floodgate with the Ferret, I'd happily buy all the cold war softskins and light armour they want to make. I'd buy it all again plus the heavy armour if it appeared in 1/48 irrespective of the company name on the box. I'm pretty much sorted for aircraft - I have several decades worth of builds in the stash. If Airifx (them again) decided to downscale their 1/48 50s aircraft to 1/72 though, I'd be forced to form an orderly queueueueueueue all on my own. So in a nutshell - stuff 1950 - 1980 one scale smaller than it is on the shelf today. Not too much to ask is it? Andy Edited September 22 by Tolvcat

It's nicely detailed, well engineered, builds easily and looks good when it's finished which is all I ever ask for in a kit. That scale though - they don't have a wide enough range to build their stuff exclusively, and they're wrong for filling in gaps in my other collections so they sit in the curios corner of the cabinet not getting half the love they deserve. Blue Noser 4,911
My biggest biggest desire, and is something that Airfix could reasonably do considering their trends lately, is a Wasp and Whirlwind (of the chopper variety). Not really bothered on the scale but there are physical examples out there so fits with their 'if we can touch it, we can do it' mantra. And would also love a Scimitar but unlike the good Laird I would go for any scale. Thats it really, quite realistic wants and nothing outrageous! so just get on it Airfix! Bet we now get a Scout and a Crab Whirlwind

Andy Just had a quick check on a selection of my decals and all seem to be in register, also just did a quick count of currently available kits on the Rubicon website, came out at 114 (more than Tamiya has currently available) and that's not counting artillery & expansion packs. Also most kits come with at least 2 versions (the T-26 has 10 variants). I just think it's a shame peeps reject these kits just because of the scale. They also do a really good range of excellent figures. Edited September 22 by DC3
Mad Steve 25,134
Good point Dave I had a look as well and its quite a varied range.

Tolvcat 5,201
I've only got two of the range so far and one of them had decal issues which is an unfortunate ratio but a statistically insignificant sample size. Get what you mean about scale, but I already have 76 kits/models in 1/48 from 15 manufacturers so I'd like to keep some consistency. That said, I've been eyeing up their Vietnam range as there would be no overlap there Andy

They've also come on loads since their early days, the King Tiger, for instance, comes in 2 boxings, one with Zimmerit & one without, the Zimmerit one comes with early & late production turrets, the non Zimmerit boxing only has the early turret. Both have full interiors but can be built without if you want. Both have fully detailed tracks (some of the earlier kits tracks aren't as detailed but that doesn't bother me) optional mud guards & accs. Both have etched grills, open or closed command & crew hatches & 5 crew figures plus a massive decal sheet (massive in options that is, not in square inches) They also do limited edition resin kits, one of their latest releases being the Sheridan in 2 versions, beautiful.
