BlackMike Models 9,661
Another set of photos from my recent invasion of southern Englandshire, this time it's Solent Sky Museum in Southampton. Home of the famous Supermarine S.....wift! I wasn't expecting much from looking at the outside, as they say, "don't judge a book by it's cover", it's an excellent little museum. In the entrance you are greeted by the view of a vintage Model Shop fronted by a vintage former Model Shop Owner! A statue of the designer of the world famous Supermarine Walrus (and some other inconsequential stuff) I found him asleep in here! A great view of the world famous Dh Tiger Moth from the cockpit window of the Sandringham. He's looking for where the Jaffa Cakes are hidden Another view of the world famous Sandringham's wing float! No Jaffa Cakes in there, he did check ....or in there A fine photo of a dummy in a flying suit, world famous of course A beautiful hand built scale model It's like a 3D history of where it all went wrong for Supermarine!! I'd have thought the museum would have at least mentioned the Spitfire even if they couldn't have one in the museum! Glad I'm not a Spitfire fan or I'd have been disappointed. A great museum despite the Spitfire connection lol Duncan B 6 2
Gorby 20,040
Thanks Duncan. It looks like they've improved the place since I last visited....well that was about forty years ago. You weren't allowed on the Sandringham when I was there. At the time I remember being amazed at how much they've fitted into a relatively small space.
Recurve 1,994
Very nice, hopefully I'll get there one day I'm interested in that Handley Page HP.88 model in the glass case, an old vacuform kit perhaps? Miko

Miggers 8,320
Had you down as a bit slimmer Dunc; Aha!,the great man, born not more than 2 miles from The Towers Obviously not a German aeroplane made by "Hans Hoff" of Berlin; Aha,this is what you two used to get back over the Wall then is it?,one of F-K's designs I'd say Good shots Dunckers, especially of the Sandringham's port wing float, though I'm not sure the cammo goes with the rest of the colour scheme.....

Cheeky beggar, that's Man Wednesday in front of the "Model Shop". He did actually have a Model Shop in Peterhead at one time. I'm the one in the Captain's seat (of course) in the Sandringham cockpit.

I'm sure my mate in the photos (green T shirt, not the handsome guy in the blue!) would act as your guide for the day as he lives nearby (he'll want to drag you around the Naval Museums just up the road too though).
