Tolvcat 5,201
Just got a flash sale email from Jadlam, they are doing some good deals on Airfix but only today and tomorrow: Today ONLY - A12011 Avro Vulcan B.2 (1/72 new tool) - £44.99 Ending tomorrow, 1/35 armour: - A1357 Tiger 1 Early Production - £22.95 - A1370 M3 Lee / Grant - £24.95 - A1358 M3 Stuart "Honey" - £19.95 - A1376 Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar (Mid Version) - £29.95 I haven't done the maths but that's a big chunk off the Vulcan and about 1/3 off RRP for the tanks. They also confirmed the Tamiya 1/48 Katy ambulance is due in November, and they've opened pre-orders Andy
Hutch6390 3,356
Thanks, Andy - the Grant was going to wait until next year, but I'm not about to turn down a 30% saving - ordered!

Tolvcat 5,201
Despite them saying it was for 24 hours only, the Vulcan is still at the reduced price. The tanks appearto have sold out though. Discount Vulcan Not that I'm encouraging or enabling you understand. I prefer to think of it as educating and informing - like the BBC Andy 1

Having the Flightpath Conversion Set certainly helps but, it's now long O O P. Of course, Airfix COULD do the decent thing and issue a B1/B1A along with a Victor B1/K1 ...........!. Incidentally, Flightpath are working on Vulcan B1/B1A and, Victor B1/K1 conversion set to fit the recent Airfix kits - at least according to 2022 article I saw in the other place (whose name I shall not mention). They will of course require a fair amount of skill too use but, I think it's the best any of us who prefer the earlier variants of the aircraft can expect. I've used a few Flightpath sets (and I have a 1/32 Bloodhound to build....). I used their corrected intakes for the Revell/Matchbox Victor and their B.2 conversion. Like you say, a lot of work, but worth it... 20160520_172553_zpssxjj5qe6 by Paul Carter, on Flickr

Rivet counters had a field day telling me what was "wrong" with the builds but, frankly, I didn't care. They looked the part and, that's all I aim for.I build the B1A in 1978 and, the B.2 in 1981. Of course, Airfix then released the B.2 in the one true scale.......!

We used them (and a Lanc and Spitfire) as "house names" at primary school at RAF Digby in the 70's. Each was hung on a vertical rack each week, with the house with the most points at the top etc. Obviously not the best made models and painted in garish colours (Blue, Green, Yellow and Red iirc) I bought my first Airfix Vulcan in 1983 literally as soon as it appeared in the shop...Recently built my "last" old tool one, in exactly the same colour scheme (XM607), 1 of 5 I have built over the years....

I must have built at least a half dozen of the original Airfix Vulcan. I do remember being a bit underwhelmed by the kit when it appeared. Mainly due to the simplified nature and, overall lack of detailing . Somehow, it looked as if it was a bit of a rush job. It was nonetheless however (and still is in my view) a perfectly serviceable kit. I certainly don't subscribe to the horror stories about how "unbuildable" it's supposed to be. Those who constantly moan about how "difficult" the kit is should consider themselves lucky they haven't built the Rareplanes or, Forma Plane vacforms (I have!) which were the only alternatives at the time!. Granted, it was a challenging kit but, there was nothing that couldn't be fixed with a modicum of care and patience. It certainly wasn't, in my experience, anything like the "putty queen" described by so many. The current Airfix kit is unaffordable but, I do have one very generously bought by my partner as a birthday present! She's hinted she might buy me the Airfix Victor for Crimbo but, for now, I'll settle for my old Matchbox/Revell kits.. I actually get a lot more satisfaction out of knocking these old kits into shape. Edited August 17 by Thatsmyboy

No more than you would expect on a 40 year old kit.
