Thatsmyboy 1,328
Seems Lidl are selling Airfix Starter kits this week at £6.99. They may seem familiar to many! Website lists : Spitfire 1A Tiger 1 Sherman Firefly A6M2 Zero Cutty Sark Willys MB Jeep BF-109E-3 Curtiss Tomahawk IIB Gnat T.1 "Yellowjacks". (Not the ancient 1964 kit but, the far superior 2012 kit) Probably grab a batch of Bf-109s. I must have enough now for an entire Gruppe!! I now have eight Gnat kits......! Don't think I need any more! Edited July 27 by Thatsmyboy

I need most of the ones I have for a variety of RAF / Royal Navy "Aggressor" schemes

It's streets ahead of the original Airfix kit (first kit I ever built way back in 1967) and, way superior to the nice but basic Matchbox item (if you can find one). I think I'm biased though, I've only got eight of them so far! I'll probably grab at least another four! Edited July 27 by Thatsmyboy

Why would you cross your fingers for the old one? The recent kit is so much better in every respect. I've got a couple of the old kits but, quite honestly, I won't be building them. They will however be a useful source of spare parts for other projects. Edited July 27 by Thatsmyboy

'Better' is very subjective, it's certainly better and being fiddly awkward and counter intuitive to build, the lovely fine detailed parts have quite thick sprue gates and break with the slightest provocation, I could go on but this would then become a review and not in keeping with this thread I'm currently building the new one in 'Best of British' GB, it hasn't gone particularly well, I got myself the 1970's Matchbox Gnat because it has more subtle panel lines, no, really, it has! Miko (Persevance is key to success! Hopefully)
Long 1,988
Might be worth having a look at the Special Hobby Gnat too. Some of their boxings have interesting non-combat markings.
