RWG686 35,548
@Che Guava and I spent an excellent day here and had arranged to photograph their Beech E18S in detail. It will feature in a walkaround later on. Sad to see that no work has been done on the Beaufighter and that @Leo's pet Vulcan is looking rather sad after 39 years in the open. I've left the pictures large in case any of you want to use any of them. Edited May 18 by RWG686 Removed incorrect stuff. 6

MikoLee 1,395
One of the few air museums in the UK I haven't visited, your pics inspire me to rectify that! Miko (Home to East Fortune by road 260 miles in 4hrs 35mins according to Google maps, by rail, 12hrs 3mins!! )
Tolvcat 4,033
I used to go to the air shows there when I lived up that way. Still remember the Catalina and MiG-15 and have pictures somewhere - actual film ones, it was pre-digital Andy

steelpillow 818
Oh, my! From a 1905/6 Green engine to a Concorde! I started listing all the must-see goodies in those piccies but my fingers wore out! Is this where the 19th century Percy Pilcher hang-glider/s hang out, too?

goon 1,494
Ooh XM597 of diversion to Rio infamy. If there is anyone here who hasn't read the story I'd recommend looking it up. Superb airmanship in the face of 'trying circumstances'. That auto-gyro is gorgeous. Thanks for posting :)

It along with a rare Kay Gyroplane are in the museum in Edinburgh a chambers Street. The Green engine is a beauty right enough. 2

Sounds like a great plan! although, I'll be flying solo, usually my museum gallery or exhibition visits are accompanied by the lovely missus Miko, however our trip to 'Farnborough Air Sciences Trust' was enough for her, all that 'raspberry ripple' not her thing unfortunately! Miko (lucky to have BBMF, East Kirkby, South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum Newark Air Museum and Elvington less than two hours away)

There's not too much time involved at Dumfries or Carlisle and both have good cafes. Make sure she brings a book. Mrs RWG takes her knitting. At RAF Lakenheath a long time back, I returned to the car to find the security police chatting to her. They had been there for ages as she reminded them of their mother and grandmother back in the USA, After they left she told her one and only aircraft joke. "They never noticed me knitting the aircraft serial numbers into the pattern" 1

"They never noticed me knitting the aircraft serial numbers into the pattern" Doesn't sound much like mrs Miko, she's more the mother of all goth rock chics with a sinster melacholy vibe! But, in her day job as a 'learning resources officer' (don't call her a librarian, she 'will' bite!) she's a mild and modest respectable considerate lovely lady! I really enjoyed the RAF stations of east Anglia occupied by the US Airforce, that last week in May kick starting the airshow season at Mildenhall was a highlight of the year! My first time was tempered by seeing most of the servicemen wearing 'hammer and sickle emblazoned on soviet red tee shirts and vests!??!?! However, the barbequed burgers were just the best ever especially with the USAF burger sauce which when it became a little too thickened by constant heat of grill they would empty a six pack of Budwieser into it giving it's unique flavour! Miko (still remember being breathless at my first sight of an SR71 in flight, like something out of a Gerry Anderson production)
