had a hankering to build this type of truck kit for a while. lets take a look in the box.

the cab and sleeper are moulded as one piece.

the chassis instructions.

the chassis itself, one piece, looks thin, I wonder if those chassis rail should be box section, they are on my Morris Minor Pickup.

Here's the Chassis of my Moggy Pickup taken near the start of my restoration, strong box section.

Nice one Sprocket

I love trucks, preferably Euro ones, but any trucks really.

If I may; You are correct, the chassis should be an I (eye) section :happy0161:, but Revell simplified a couple of their truck kits with one piece Chassis and Cab Set ups to lower the prices.  Doesn't detract in any way how much fun they are to build tho...

Looks like fun, Sprocket :happy0161:.  Apart from 1/76 and 1/72 scales I have not built any trucks/lorries, and then only military ones, mostly for wargaming.  I shall pull up a chair, if I may, and watch with interest

the chrome tank joined, that chrome will have to go to get that terrible line smoothed out.

better, happy with that, I will add plasticard bands around the tanks too.

wQVBYmZ.png

the steel bands secure the fuel tanks, the tanks are black and the bands are grey on this Video.

the chassis isn't flat thoughout, it does have a L shape to it further back, the axle fit is very good, so far, with a

little fettling, it clicks together and I need a sharp blade to separate the parts to cement them. The beehive

shapes on the axle are Helicoil springs, a bit like on a Sherman HVSS. So many different shades of matt black

needed to paint this chassis.

I take it all back about the chassis looking thin and weak looking, the Halfords grey plastic primer has beefed it up.

mbf7uGm.jpg

the front chassis legs look just like those in the videos above, single blade like beams.

I'm doing this rig heavily weathered and faded and dirty underneath, but no rust, for a change from me

they were built from aluminium. So the underneath needs dirt. Textured dirt. So, garden soil, PVA glue

water with a drop of washing up liquid. mix it up and slop it on.

mud_a_uldg6o.png

ok, it looks an intolerable, out of scale mess right now, but give that 24 hours to dry, and it will crack and dry and shrink back ready for an airbrushing of dust colour.

Thanks Gorbs.

With a warts and all WIP it's hard to show the part done job, looks a little heavy, the clods of mud on a road vehicle,

but when dry they crumble off with your thumb nail, get it to look more like it's gone from Canada to the Mid-west USA along some

dirt roads, not ploughed fields, some more of the heavy clods to crumble off, it's held on quite solid. Working well so far.

Double duty wheels at the back, the chrome rims need a black wash to bring down that over shiny toy chrome look.

CLEPj9k.png

the front rims the same.

Cab in light blue, I'm not going for the box art Purple look.

That wash really made a world of difference IMHO.

Forgive me for being dense, or having missed this earlier, but what makes this particular model and "arctic tractor"?

Artic - only one C. This side of the pond, these tractor/trailer units are known as articulated lorries - artics for short.

Sorry 'bout that, operator headspace and timing on my part.

No worries - we remain two people separated by a common language :D I'm sure our English is deliberately designed to be impenetrably idiomatic, as much to maintain our class barriers as it is to trip up non-natives.

it's coming along nicely, but I'm having to put the brake on temporarily as I'm taking part in the PFGEN Memorial spitfire build over on the Army Rumour Service, he was a well liked member and his 1/32 Spitfire build was legendary.

I haven't done a Spitfire for years, but this is a very thoughtful cause. I will share my build with you all over on the Aircraft thread, before I get back to this truck. I dunno, two stalled builds in as many weeks.
