RWG686 33,100
Hellcat on hold and other stuff ticking away so what next for a quickish build. I want to stay with Fleet Air Arm so is it 1. Post war Grumman Avenger. Sword kit with Freightdog resin bits. 2. MPM Fairey Barracuda or 3. Octopus /Pavla Blackburn Skua. I haven't built any of them before so over to you to decide for me.
Hutch6390 2,153
Errrmmmm..., well, I built an Avenger once (the old Airfix one in dark blue plastic, with half-a-million rivets), and I quite like the Skua, but I've seen/read a couple of Skua builds, but I've never seen a Barracuda build, soooo, it's the Barracuda getting my vote
mac1677 4,408
All three are great subjects, but I agree with Hutch, the Barracuda would be my choice. On a side note, is it me or does the Skua landing gear look to be on the wrong way round
Tolvcat 3,529
Another vote for the Barracuda as I've never seen one finished and it seems to be gratuitously odd, even for a FAA bird. Andy Edited March 3 by Tolvcat

The undercarriage really does look like that, probably it assists rotation to get the tail up early down the flight deck.

With that caster angle it must have had no directional integrity
Blue Noser 3,549
I would opt for the Avenger, then Barra. Obvs any Helo would trump the lot! I wouldnt wish the Stuka on you, I think it does have some nice resin but the kit is a real pig! Mine is still on the shelf of permanent doom, I cannot bring myself to even contemplate finishing it. I think its nearly complete but ......arrrgghhh ..... just thinking about it hurts! 1

RWG686 33,100
I will be building DP872 of 769 NAS which is in a long term resurrection at the Fleet Air Arm museum. (https://mail.barracudaproject.co.uk/index.php?id=21) If the kit is as bad as I'm told, then it may end up like this 1
Gorby 17,213
That looks more like a Mach2 kit.

RWG686 33,100
Work begins. The bottom part of the exhaust trench has been filled with a bit of card as I am doing it with the exposed exhaust stubs. A start of an impression of the cockpit although I have no idea what can be seen through the canopy.

RWG686 33,100
Having had a busy afternoon, I wasn't going to do any modelling tonight but the call made me open up the hatch and start up the ladder. I will only do a wee bit so need to change out of the good jeans. Voice says 'go and change' 5 minutes later and wearing my trusty paint and filler splattered Craghoppers, I climb into the loft and start work. More internal stuff done. This was a brand new bottle. Note the home made anti-tipping device. The said bottle after the anti-tipping device failed. The liquid went all over the worktop and down on to my trousers. Not a problem. Unfortunately I had left half a fuselage and two halves of the wings out and they went for a sail in liquid poly. The wings immediately started to warp and I quickly rubbed them over with an old shirt normally used for wiping brushes. I got most of it before they turned to soup. Due to the smell which my extractor wouldn't clear quick enough , I abandoned ship. Here's the zimmermit finished Barracuda :
