Mirage IIIRS C.70.

Recommended Posts

I have only seen two Mirage IIIs. The IIIE at Elvington and a IIIRS at Kosice, Slovakia.

I've chosen the Swiss one for this build. The C.70 means that the aircraft has been modified with the 70% canard wings.

I have two kits and a conversion set. I'll let you know later which of them I will use.

Here's the airframe, R-2108, I'll attempt:

The PJ kit is over-engineered and has trenches so I thought I'd be smart and use a Special Hobby kit purchased at the Perth show.

Anybody want to buy a Special Hobby Mirage IIIC ?

The IIIR was based on the IIIE which is 12 inches longer than the C.

So the subject will now be a mishmash of PJ and a Revell Kfir involving more cutting and filling than if I'd just used the PJ kit. A typical Gault creation then.

Started by making the cockpit look less naked. This will be refined once dry.

Remember when I said that?

Well here's what I'm saying now.

:rant::rant:Revell :rant: Kfir :rant:

I now need to decide if this gets binned and I make a start on the PJ one (fortunately there were two noses)   Have you ever seen joins like these?

Filler! That’s it, do you have any?

Good idea. Can't understand why I didn't think of it given that there is a guy on here who has shares in the stuff

I just take filler for granted on these cruder kits. Sometimes I glue in plasticard shims so the joint stays strong.

What bugs me more is when the lip on the upper piece and the edge of the underside piece are different depths, so it needs a lot of messing to get them to match. No sign of that here, or the dreaded sink marks. Count your blessings!

That was my thoughts here as even by my standards that would be a lot of filler.

I did try plastic spacers to widen the fuselage but it's too rigid.

The PJ kit looks a nightmare as it has so many options in the box that the fuselage is in about 8 pieces I think.

What I need is a top class kit of 1/72 Mirage IIIE.

It's why I have some Milliput for the use of. Not everyone's cup o' char, but work it in and smooth out with a wet tool (ooh er missus) and you should have a near zero sanding fix.

Just been catching up on the nether regions of this forum, on pages I should visit more often but keep neglecting for weeks on end! I thought I recognised that grand canyon! I have just plucked out the Italeri Kfir from the stash as an enjoyable continuation of my quick build, slap it together phase, but alas I am mistaken and it seems to be sucking all enjoyment out of it! Also painting it two shades of grey that are indistinguishable from each other and almost matching the plastic colour is not making it much 'fun'. Still good to know its not just my example and no matter how many of these kits I see with their lovely artwork, bringing back memories of yonder when I was knee high to a grass hopper I am to avoid these like the Vid! I'll be sticking to Italeri Helos only in future! Looking forward to seeing at least one example of this aircraft completed! Hope the Modelsvit version is worth it!

Hope it didn't put you off your lunch Bob.

Haven't done anything because of the bat lurgy but hope to be fit enough to climb the ladder at the weekend.

Don't know if you saw the review I posted of the Modelsvit kit ?

I shall persevere, I only bought it a short while ago so I am loathed to chuck it already! Hope you feel better to get back at the table soon!
