Flora Day in Helston yesterday. The first one in 3 yrs due to Covid. A lot pre Christian and Christian celebratory stuff and much merriment. No I wasn't in the procession but 'The Blue Anchor' on occasion.

Yayy! Minxie the Moocher was out and about today snarling and growling her way around SW Cornwall-land. Got her up to 65 at one point with room to spare. And another opportunity to 'clear the pipes' was thwarted by yes, you guessed it, a ruddy Jazz crawling at 45.

Driving through Vámosszabadi in Hungary the other day I saw this tucked away in a yard.

Swr0V04P_o.jpg

Unfortunately it turned out to be a replica.

Also in the yard was this submarine. Alleged to be an ex military one converted for tourist use. Yard all closed up so nobody to ask.

On the way back into Slovakia, I just had to stop here. To misquote, in a Loyd Grossman voice, an old TV programme

Who lives in a village named this?

I forgot this one for @Che Guava Why would a children's plaything in Gyor, Hungary have a Percival Vega Gull registration ?

@RWG686, thanks!  It sounds delicious. I wish I had this choice while in the field during exercises. "Hmmm, powdered eggs, or an MRE?" 😝

Egg Banjos were a base thing rather than a field thing, holding your egg banjo in one hand while you wipe freshly dripped egg off your shirt, looking like you're playing a Banjo, Patrol bases in NI had a hot plate going 24- 7 with a large tray of eggs and bread baps for self use. Lovely before catching some shut eye after a late foot patrol.

Picture shows North Howard Street Mill SF base West Belfast from the air 1984. It's all been demolished and developed now. Better days for the People of Northern Island.

Out and about with the memsahib in the Moocher today and got her up to 75 whilst overtaking a 'real' car. Well, when I say real it was a VW 'pup' crawling at 55. Anyway, at Enys house and gardens with the bluebells having their last hurrah of the season so a load of flower phots.

The side of the house with some of the former working buildings. The house is a very long term restoration project. Once used by the Dutch Navy during the Second World War.

The clock tower. I tried hard not to get the Portaloo in shot.

20220514-152034.jpg

A view down into fern gulley. There was a pond at the bottom which seemed good for toads. I like toads.

Part of the gardens.

A very tall gingko tree. Believed to be the tallest in England or Cornwall or both.

The start of the bluebell sea.

An obliging bee.

White flowers, heavily scented.

Memsahib (in 1/1 scale)

Camelia.

20220514-150608.jpg

A blue flower. Possibly a variety of agapanthus?

20220514-150414.jpg

Daisies. The bright patch is literally a sea of white daisies in the sunlight.

20220514-150118.jpg

A mighty oak.

Bluebells and wild garlic.

A primrose having a last fling in the light.

The swathe of bluebells is huge. People come here just to see them.

Silver Birch and bluebells.

Apple blossom. Heritage variety Cornish Honeypip which are sold later in the year. I've had some from here before.

Daisy pathway.

Wild garlic amongst the goose grass. Both of which are edible.

Yellow poppy.

Bluebells and buttercups.

I've not heard of that one.

Nice pics. I love the smell of wild garlic and the sight of massed Bluebells.

That is beautiful. Interesting to see the difference between British cathedrals and European ones.

Thank you for these @Milan Mynar, such a beautiful cathedral. I was unaware of this place, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. So glad WWII didn't see it harmed badly.

So did I until we did a weekend exercise at Catterick, the point of which was to set up a patrol base in a small copse, dig defensive positions and spend the weekend patrolling. This would have been quite all right if it wasn't for the fact that the entire floor of the copse was covered with wild garlic, after a couple of hours of 20-30 squaddies stomping about and digging bloody big holes everywhere you can imagine what the place smelled like, and it smelled like it all weekend. I felt quite ill.
