Does anyone know what sort of van this is?

It's from my local airfield, what was RAF Old Buckenham. It was mostly B-24's, but they sometimes had visits from Mustangs etc and RAF planes limping home.

The whole image is captioned:

Consolidated (Douglas-Tulsa) B-24H-25-DT Liberator 42-51114 "WHISKEY JINGLES" + crew having a tea / coffee break

It's from this album:

Lots of interesting stuff there, especially if you're a local :)

Are you thinking of doing a Dio?

Maybe, when I have space, or at least some of the aircraft and vehicles. There's a lot of fun nose art and names to copy.

Plus 41-28641 'CEE GEE' was captured by the Germans and flown by KG200.

So a lot of interesting subjects.

Maybe the instructions have some guide as to what they should be applied to?

Good find. Looks like a general sheet for anything to me. When I did a quick Googlify it looks like many vehicles were converted into canteen vans.

@Long, I know it's not the same vehicle, but this one is serving a similar purpose. I'm quite interested in modeling one of these and posing it next to a bomber:

Here is a rather lengthy thread discussing these, plus some good modeling eye candy along the way:

HTH!

There's some really good discussion about the Donut Dollies, their operations, the origins of the buses, etc. in that thread. Some great images too. I'm "one of those" that wants to know about all of the support and ancillary vehicles and personnel that kept our crews in the air and fighting fit. The Donut Dollies are a forgotten chapter. A lot of hard, thankless as far as history is concerned, work on their part.

As much as I like the Airfix bomber support sets released recently (and I do like them), I'd love to model one of these next to a bomber with a bunch of ground crew gathered around.
