Figures, Figures and more Figures

Recommended Posts

Afternoon Everyone :w00t:

Ya see, its Andy's and Walrus's fault. They keep posting pics of little 28mm figures, and the more they post, the more my eyes are drawn to an old plastic tool box under my bench, my figure stash... :)

Today, I decided to dust it off, open it up and have a lookie inside....

Two hours later :blushing:

I pulled out a load of figures, and that was enough to decide to have a go at painting some...

So, lets have a look

Before I started Tabletop gaming and Warhammer, I played D & D and had a load of figures for that. These are some the very first figures I bought, from Games Workshop in Birmingham, probably mid 90's. The Female Figure second from left is an old Ral Partha figure

And we delve even deeper...

The two ghosty looking wraith things were the first two I bought :) The other three are from over the years, one on the left is Warhammer Fantasy Plastic

Next up, had to have something from the future, so here's a few Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard Gaunt's Ghost's (I've just looked on Ebay and these cost a fortune now )

20220426_145409.thumb.jpg.a3a0a244fee5b8eb1967bdd3578008c8.jpg

My late sister bought me this one, a Vampire Witch, so had to give this a repaint...

One always needed a Medusa riding a Nightmare...  I know this is an old figure, Ill have to do some googling for more info, but I know its a Dark Elf on a Dark Pegasus

20220426_145700.thumb.jpg.af3733f97b764a22124386b7a4c4d946.jpg

Next up we have a Warhammer Tomb Kings Liche Preist. I love this figure and not sure yet if I want to repaint it. I was soooo proud of this paint up.

And finally. This I think is my all time favourite figure, A Dark Elf Cold One Rider.

20220426_145854.thumb.jpg.11185fb172242ebf010f88415839448f.jpg

Why am I showing you all these?, well I'm going to repaint them all :)

Steve does figure painting!!!! :o

I feel faint.

My step son was into Warhammer 40k and he collected (just checked) Space marines and the cute and cuddly Tyranids. I made some dio stuff for him like a ruined church and a bridge.

Holy crap, 77... was that when they played on stone slabs 😬

The only thing out there were the first three books. No figures. Nothing.
I had a magic user named Tuborg the Golden. As a sixteen year old punk I drank Tuborg Gold beer. :) Had long hair, smoked Marlboros, and had to drive my mom's car, a '71 GTO with factory ram-air, 400 c.i. engine and a turbo-hydromatic 400 transmission. I was a D&D-playing, hot-rodding stud-puppy.

No... steve is attempting to paint figures like he used to:no:

I just wanna join in the fun with Walrus and Andy

It's a slippery slope. After spending £How Much??? on a stand alone figure because she has a cat I've just spent a a Brazilian quid extra on paint for her. Wouldn't care but I've got enough figures in the cupboard to populate a medium sized country already, and paint enough to coat the lot of them twice but you always need one more - especially if they're cute an/or cool :robo:

I've got Skaven, Empire, Kislev, Dwarf and Dogs of War units for Warhammer plus Eldar and Tyranid 40K then there's a big pile of 'Oooh, shiny thing' too.

Played D&D for years, starting in college in '82. I had a long running character who was the result of the liaison between a barmaid of negotiable virtue and a greenskin with the going rate. Growing up he heard "Get that rancid orc bastard out of here" so often he assumed that was his name and a legend was born :D

😬

D&D, I was always a magic user until I settled down into a Drau(Dark Elf) Caster that I played for years until I started being the DM.

Currently sitting in the Giant Tupperwares* in Storage; I have, Fantasy, Ork, Dark Elf, Empire, Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings. 40k I have Orks, Dark Angels, Legion of the Damned and Tyranids. How the effing hell I had time to paint all that I dont know.

I may accept an offer to buy the lot, still thinking...

At the time I was a complete Citadel Paint Whore and I had an absolute shite load of the old paint.

This time round however, im not using citadel paints, Im not going through all that again,(plus they are expensive here) so I'm just going to use what I have 😬

* Those big storage box things you put on top of cupboards, under beds etc.

That's a shock ! Steve using Humbrol enamels

I had a client, a young lad, who was right into that Warhammer stuff. He had millions of the things and every single paint Citadel made.

The only trouble was that he just broke the parts of the runner and didn't bother with join lines so the model's construction was crap.

The painting however was absolutely amazing. Metal looked like metal, cloth looked like cloth and his flesh tones looked real.

I tried unsuccessfully to get him to come along to the model club and teach us how to paint

Afternoon Everyone :w00t:

Its a Public Holiday here, so memsahib was out with her friend luncheoning and spending money :)

I had a great time. Had a lovely day getting into figure painting again and it was a hoot...

So, just this once, step by step.

This is a Man o War, or Empire Mercenary, but we shall call him Bob...

First up, Airbrushed XF 1 Flat Black (oh hell would an airbrush have helped waaaaay back)

20220427_121810.thumb.jpg.29df9b6d897527290d5e7c54bdda6ac3.jpg

I always used to do plate armour first, as it needs the most drybrushing and can make a mess on your other painting. Drybrushed with X11 Silver

After the Plate was done, I painted the scrolls, the feather on the hat and the puffy sleeve thing in a base of white.

20220427_135535.thumb.jpg.e49ebfb52a080c81b0077ad1d43d18ff.jpg

20220427_135540.thumb.jpg.be4be9b5166e1deede9c6f79bb5e3e95.jpg

Next up, The chainmail was drybrushed XF 16 Aluminium, and then added some colour to the feather and puffy sleeve thing.

I also laid on the skin base layer, which is a couple of little drops of Humbrol Brick Red and Flesh.

20220427_142610.thumb.jpg.5e592b46a85afdac98afcd9f6e0c5b20.jpg

20220427_142627.thumb.jpg.72338f7e1c7928ac9ae8fc8c01c0d57a.jpg

While Bob was resting on the desk drying, I made a start on the big lizard...

The Cold One was primed with normal grey primer, and then out came the airbrush. I must admit, airbrushing figures just felt weird, but it seems to be working and like I said, this would have chopped down painting time by half in the past...

So, First up, XF 18 Medium Blue on the lower bits, XF 50 Field Blue on the upper bits and when that was all dried, I started lightening the lower bits with XF22 light blue

20220427_144611.thumb.jpg.ab56b589b059fe0aeb4160cac41e5ca7.jpg

20220427_144622.thumb.jpg.c4c7413c35ce57da3972a1a2cc34e1d7.jpg

and that's where my fun day came to an end :)

Still lots to do

the only thing he'd loved more would have been a dinosaur on the Titanic.

Very odd. Even odder than a spider in a pickelhaube.

Afternoon Everyone :w00t:

I managed to finish off this mercenary figure...

I'm not quite sure how to take photos of figures, hope these suffice

All painting with Tamiya and Humbrol, Enamels and Acrylics. Lots of areas for improvement, but not bad for the first one in a couple of years I reckon :)

I can't be the only one thinking that Kate Winslet has been dropped into the briny because of the theropod's iddy biddy forelimbs.
Can see why he was replaced by Leo de Caprio for the male lead.

Looking good Steve.
Photographing minis is tricky.  I could give you plenty of advice.
All of it useless, unfortunately.
