Just some nice aeroplanes

Recommended Posts

Many aircraft modellers are also enthusiasts /spotters. What I see and photograph occasionally gives me the metaphorical boot in the backside so that I go and build a model.

I am by no means a photographer so I hope that what follows is OK with you.

I have left the title without much detail as I hope that a few of you will add to the thread with your own stuff.

1. Sukhoi Su-25, Ukraine taken at Sliac,Slovakia.

Nice photos Richard, I have some photos of aircraft from the 50's/60's, would it be better leave this thread with the more recent aircraft and start a new thread for older stuff?

I kept the title vague to cover all eras so feel free to add and I look forward to seeing stuff from back then.

As an aside..

The Spartan I posted above served as a UC-71 with the USAAF in WWII. Here's what she looked like then:

These aren't my photos, but the owner has said he is happy for them to be put online. The photos were taken by his dad, Arthur 'Nibby' Fellows who took several hundred unique photos during his service days (fighter pilot); from his time travelling around the world as an advanced training instructor; from when he was a consultant for several aircraft companies and the time he was on the crash investigating team. Unfortunately, when he died his daughter threw almost all of them away, only a few survive.

I've left the most obscure one to the end – The Heston JC.6 (also known as the Heston A.2/45 & the Heston AOP). There are very few photos of this aircraft as it never went into production and only two prototypes were built – these photos pretty much double what is already available online. It was designed and built to meet Air Ministry specification A.2/45 for an "Air Observation Post" (AOP) for the British Army. During the evaluation trials the rival Auster AOP.6 had a better performance and was ordered into production.

Apparently A float-plane version was designed bySaunders-Roe as the Saro P.100 but never left the drawing board let alone the water.

I hope you like them.

Irony was never my strong point !

I don't dislike Spitfires,I just can't get over excited with them.

Much prefer the Hurricane if I had to chose.

I'm not much of a photographer

Neither am I !

I take photographs to record the aircraft rather than composing a beautiful picture.

I see this thread has had a few views. Do you think if I nag enough more people will post photos ? 😊

Some days at Prestwick there wasn't much to photograph and this fellow became the target of many a lens.
