R, @RWG686 don't suppose you panned right with photo ten did you? Think it may be a Moravia? light twin similar to the Miles Gemini, if so, any chance of a photo being posted?

@Grunhertz are you fed up with Mig 21s yet?

Papa Air Force Base in Hungary had dozens of Mig 21s,Sukhoi 22s and Mig 23s stored there as well as some gate guards.

I went there on four occasions and each time, despite letters of introduction,I was refused permission . I was given this photograph  to show me just a small part of what I missed.     (I can't remember who has copyright so let me know if it needs removing.)

They were eventually all gathered in an area well away from the main base (again refused) before a farmer bought them.

On my last visit,I made my way to the farm only to find copious amounts of barbed wire and a not happy to see me farmer with an equally unhappy dog.

I snatched this shot and a few more just as I was leaving.

A few days later off to Kecskemet to try and photograph the stored Mig 29s.  Permission refused so all I got was a quick snap of the gate guard before being told not to take pictures!

My son sent me this one of a recent addition to a roundabout near Budapest.

I finally got up close and personal with some Hungarian Migs at the now sadly closed museum at Solnok. I'll show you them next post.

Sadly the museum at Solnok Air Force Base in Hungary has closed down. I only got there once but what a visit.

As an aside..a Mil Mi-4 smells the same as a Wessex.

Here's some of the Mig 21's in no particular order:

I've cropped this picture so you don't have to look at my ugly mug. I've included this to show that a transfer (decal )will not suffice even in 1/72 for this lumpy cockpit.

Excellent as usual Ian.

Showing my age with the Dutch Neptune. It was a regular visitor to Lossie and Kinloss back in the day.

What's the boil in the bag thing in photo 4?    Nakajima Kikka?

I think the "boil in the bag thing?"is the Kikka,it was in the conservation area at the end of the building along with the Helldiver and a Sikorski flying boat.

Difficult to take piccies as they had to be taken through  glass wall.

The visit was around five years ago and things have changed a little since then aircraft movement wise.

I was in Washington last year and wanted to visit again, got stuck in horrendous traffic on the way there and gave up, later found out the easiest way to get there is to catch an airport bus from just off the main mall area to the departures area, there they have a free shuttle bus to the museum.

Kicked myself all the way home.
