Avia B-534

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'll be building the Avia B-534. I had planned to start at 16:00 but I can't wait, so when 15:00 comes round I'll be getting on with it.

Off we go!

The under side of the top wing is rigged with the brilliant Bob's Buckles. I've done a couple of 1/32 rigged planes and it's terrific, if fiddly, fun. In 1/48 it's just fiddly. It's not too bad under the top wing, but once it's in place the space between the two wings is going to be very limited.

It's all gone a bit wrong this morning. I woke up feeling terrible, but dragged myself down to the shed. I've been struggling for an hour trying to attach the top wing, and I can see why people struggle. The locating pins and holes are tiny, and there's no positive fit. I'd have built a jig, but I'm running out of time so I tried to bodge it. It's a real mess of super glue now, and not at all rigid or square. Less than four hours left for me.

Well, the top wing has just parted company with the rest of the model. I'd only got one cable installed, and was struggling to do a second. Given I'm not well, and there's only three hours left I think I'm done.

Cheers gang. I wasn't all that unwell, but not in the mood for modelling. When the wing went wrong it was time to give up.
