HKM Mosquito B Mk.XVI

Recommended Posts

This will be the first kit of the year for me

For details of what's in the box please refer to James review

So here we go. There won't be any aftermarket apart from Top notch masks. I am aware that this is not the best received mosquito out there but this WILL be out of the box

Thanks Mish. Pics will follow but HKM have made subtle changes due to feedback received on the last kit. The seat pads for the navigator/bombaimer now have inserts to go behind the bulkheads (these were hollow on the first release and showed). So they did listen

Here is the bottom do the seat with the insert in place and a small scratchbuilt strip to make up a piece of missing detail.

The next piece has been filled just to flatten off the back rest the insert is there in hindsight a small piece of sheet would have been better 20180107_151416.thumb.jpg.dd28f56a73d0d5f9e45610652af94974.jpg

When painted they look better

The cockpit continues most of the basic painting is done. With most of the detail moulded on it's a satisfying painting challenge to pick out the various details. Most of this is done and a dry brush. Next is a cost of clear for a wash.20180108_203018.thumb.jpg.5e3b8b7c186061ca0915bccb4272561f.jpg20180109_191856.thumb.jpg.4d74d17dfa2c7c2c71eb34b7f88e38a5.jpg20180109_191914.thumb.jpg.53c2fcf1c87affa34688297f4f2b6709.jpg20180109_202715.thumb.jpg.88badebe00364f2ff828b73262b7afa4.jpg

Hmmm, someone has been a good lad for Santa haven't they?(not quite as good as one of my neighbours mind, they had a brand new 5.0 V8 Mustang GT from Santa!!).

I'll keep an eye on yer with this Darren,I do rather like the Mossie, but fear retribution with one of my own shotties from higher authority if I blew 139 sovs

on this baby.......

Thanks migs

I have not been idle but everything with large scale cockpit takes time. That said the pit slides into the nose when done and on test fit it goes in nicely

But we're still painting

Looking good Darren. I'm saving up for this kit as I want to build LR503 F "Freddie" which completed 213 op's

Time for an update from the weekend. Cockpit is together and it just fits, perfectly. As does the canopy interior framing. In top of that the glazing just fits too. I may be enjoying this a bit too much but it is just a pleasure to build. 20180113_161624.thumb.jpg.3ebba9a46fb9defdc77e235a9c4634f6.jpg20180113_161652.thumb.jpg.98fa202b4dde1bf9560176b67f59954d.jpg20180114_154759.thumb.jpg.7fe50ee239ce6bfb689b50cd125c75cc.jpg20180114_145658.thumb.jpg.1855981edac612d728611bf02a74c7cc.jpg

Ah, yes I see what you mean about a large Mossie! Very nice it is too. I would be too intimidated by the size of the kit to have a go.

Duncan B

Don't be. It's an easier build than a lot of smaller kits I've built it is a seriously great kit

You are a bad man, trying to encourage this poor school janitor (and Secret Agent, oh hang on that was Hong Kong Fooey) and very part time plastic model pusher into a lifetime of debt and pain! I'll do it so long as the kit comes with 633 Sqn decals (best film ever, I only went to the "Flicks" to see it 14 times when I was a kid and will still watch it whenever it comes on the goggle box).

Duncan B ("you can kill the men but you can't kill a Squadron", however I know of at least one Officer who tried bloody hard to disprove that!)

You'll need to paint the nose over like they did in the film then Dunc.

Some some small progress today and yesterday (Just had the world's coldest day at duxford). The rear fuselage and tailwheel assembly is together. All of the control surfaces are moveable so far.  The engineering is great it all fits like a glove. It's a shame to have to put the cover on the tail wheel assembly but oh well. Next is to detail and weather the bomb bay rear section and then start on some undercarriage.
