Testors 1/72 B-2 Stealth Bomber

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I have dragged this one off the shelf of perpetual procrastination so it can be finished for next years Melbourne Model Expo (my club's display needs it - can't say any more than that for now -top secret, hush hush, secret squirrel stuff sorry - just like the real plane was in the 90's)

Whilst I was at it, I thought I would start up a WIP thread coz you don't see many of these being built - and that's mostly because people tend to give up on them not long after starting it. Like me for example. I am very easily distracted.... :popo:

Anyways, I had gotten through scratching up most of the rear section behind the cockpit and that's where I had stopped. I also spent a shed load of time on the wing joins and I still have the bottom ones to look forward to yet. Joy.....

I will also not have to scratch build some engine faces which ought to be interesting. I'm looking to make one master and resin copy myself another 3 to save on time and ensure uniformity.

The bomb bays have also started to have their detailing added. Still lots more to do yet.

Here's where I am currently up to:

with some base colouring:

And the wings! The biggest PITA to fix but I am getting there.

Lastly, the bomb bays:

Well, that's where I am currently up to but more shall be posted soon (once I've actually done something)

Till then

thanks for looking

glad to have you guys along for the ride. I have no idea how this is going to turn out ....

Based on what you've shown us so far I'd say it's going to turn out very well.

I'm gonna look REALLY stoopid asking this....  But, Why is one bomb bay white & the other black?!?!

Is there really only 1 in the kit??

There really is only one. Testors in their infinite wisdom chose to only allow for one bay to be shown open. Of course, the kit was tooled so early in the history of the B-2 that it had only been seen in public photos to have that one bay open so they took the prudent way out in case there was something vastly different hidden up there...

Just to add to that, the "detail" they put in there was so far removed from reality it has to be rebuilt. It was a guess on their behalf though as no one had actually seen the bomb bay.  Bit like Dragon and their take on the Typhoon sub.

Still, I find its a good excuse to practise my scratch building skills. Its a good thing you wont really see it once it's done!

I remember having John Morrey's B-2 build on the L & C tables at the Farnborough show a few years back. He'd managed to persuade a certain Neil Burkhill to knock up the bomb bay side walls, roof and weapons carriage and cast them in resin. I don't think it ever appeared as a Paragon set.

They would have been handy!! Shame nothing came of it.

Id seen some chinese company was taking preorders for a new B2 but nothing had happened. Sounds like another TAN model release ....

I'm glad I didn't put down any money for one then!

Just a small pic post of the cockpit before it goes in. I've done as much as I'm going to and TBH, you'll be hard pressed to see much through the windscreen as it is, so I won't go over board on details like adding a toilet etc.

I'm pretty happy with how its come out but judge for yourselves if it's passable

I've started work on the landing gear as I needed a break from the bomb bays but no pics of those just yet. Don't worry, I won't be updating this every time I glue something together but I thought you may like to see the pit before it gets installed. I may add a throttle quadrant yet but we'll see

thanks for stopping by

Hi everyone

Thought I should give this a brief update but beware, I haven't done a lot lately due to other commitments ( :omg: nooo - real life stuff?!?!?!)

So, what have I done? Well, I scratch built an engine which is by no means accurate or probably even close to reality but it's something and it looks better than a blank face

I have made a meager start to the rotary launcher

(I did say it was meager!)

The landing gear have also started having their detail added:

And last but not least, the gear doors have also been fixed up (I know - hardly exciting but necessary)

Well, that's all she wrote for now sorry. I told you it wasn't a huge update but I shall hopefully have something more interesting next time

As always, thanks for looking in
