1/35 1930s/40s dockside crane

Recommended Posts

After a pleasant chat in the LMS (or it was till it closed down) I got to making a dockside crane for use in 1/35 dioramas. The instigator of the scheme has sent me some pics of the results.

The kit

Assembled but unpainted

And after he has painted and detailed

Wow that's really fab! Love it!
I've thought about buying the Dapol  OO/HO kit even though I don't have a train set! lol

I did do one printed off at OO scale for my Father in Law to add to his train set-up. Hopefully post-pandemic I’ll get to see it in-situ.

I did get given the Dapol kit but haven’t built it yet. Looks really neat - I’ve held off doing it in case it makes me nitpick over mine

Some neat progress as a friend who built it up has included in a brilliant E-boat dockside diorama. His work always has loads of life and activity. As soon as I get the workshop going he wants another and I’m keen to see what he does with it

Also a really nice alert over on the book of face that a substantial 3D modelling group  has adopted the crane as their cover photo

Thank you

Simon

Hi Simon,

I’m not quite up and running yet - as the good Mr @Gorby says I recently moved house and the move and renovations have taken longer than planned so my tools and printers are still in storage. If you don’t mind waiting a month or so to get one just fire me a message with your email address and I’ll give you my details.

Cheers,

Alistair

love the crane

lol im glad they dont move torps like that though

Fair point. I’ve intervened when construction at a work site was lifting both an oxygen and an acetylene cylinder lashed together like that to roof height to do some work but as it was someone else’s diorama I went with the “Not my circus, not my monkey” approach

sorry it wasn't criticism of the kit, it just stood out, as being an ex submariner that the load looked wrong, had it been a pallet load, i would not have said anything

Hi There,

Can you tell me how much the dockside crane is and where I can purchase it from please?

thanks

James

Hi James,

I’m still mired in house renovations but approaching the end of them so I should be able to get my big 3D printer out of storage and restart these

It’ll go on my numonday store at https://www.numonday.com/shop/gannet-scale-models-store/

I’m not sure of the pricing as I’ve not bought filament in a year or so and I’ll likely do the arm in resin to make it sharper and clean up easier so will update pricing when I’ve calculated those out

If you’d like an email when I’m running again just drop me a message
